How about a modern lightweight winter jacket with smart details for all the super-chilly moments in life? You can combat your enemies in this jacket, or just the elements by choosing a less militant solid color – the build and materials are field-ready for any use case.
Features
The L5 Thermal Jacket is an insulation layer for extreme cold, and it's meant to be worn while you're doing things, not just standing somewhere looking pretty. The fit, pockets and reinforcements are all laid out for that.
Made for actual use
Two-way underarm ventilation zippers let heat out when your activity level goes up. The upper arm pockets stay within reach when body armor or a load-bearing vest covers the chest pockets.
The shoulder area, cuff ends, and elbows are reinforced with 500D Cordura. The elbow reinforcements also work as pockets for elbow pad inserts.
The fabric has a DWR treatment but isn't waterproof. This jacket is designed for situations where water has become solid. On the other hand, not being waterproof means that this jacket breathes better and dries quicker if it indeed does get wet.
Armor?
The L5 Thermal Jacket also works as static insulation when you pull it on over a lightweight field uniform. It isn't cut to go over armor and load-bearing gear, though. If you need a layer that does, get the L5 Thermal Anorak.
Details
-
Fit and hood: In your recommended size, the fit is generous enough to wear over multiple underlayers. The adjustable hood fits over a helmet, and the elbows are articulated.
-
Closures and adjustment: The 2-way front zipper has storm flaps inside and out, with a full-length stiffener strap to prevent zipper snags. 2-way ventilation zippers run under the arms. The cuffs adjust with hook-and-loop, and the hem adjusts with an elastic drawcord.
-
Pockets: The jacket has two zippered chest pockets and two zippered upper arm pockets. Inside, there's a zippered pocket on the left and an open-top pocket on the right.
-
Reinforcements: The shoulder area and elbows are reinforced with 500D Cordura. The elbow reinforcements double as pockets for pad inserts. The cuff ends are reinforced as well.
-
For morale and signaling: Loop bars take name, rank and sleeve patches – official or not.
